PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can use an existing recording medium placing function even when another image forming apparatus is mounted over an apparatus main body.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus comprises: a placing surface 15 which is provided on a top surface of an apparatus main body 100 and on which recording media discharged from the apparatus main body 100 are placed; protrusions 17 which are provided in the apparatus main body 100 in such a manner that they protrude upward from the placing surface 15; and vertical connection parts 19 which are provided in the protrusions 17 and can be connected with another image forming apparatus mounted above the apparatus main body 100. The vertical connection parts 19 are configured to have such a height that a gap for taking out recording media placed on the placing surface 15 by inserting fingers or a hand can be formed between a bottom surface of an apparatus main body of the other image forming apparatus and the top surface of the apparatus main body 100 in which the vertical connection parts 19 are provided while the other image forming apparatus is connected with them from above.
