The image forming apparatus includes: a print part for performing a print job; a communication part which communicates with a host device; a storage part which stores information on tonner saving options which are differently set according to data characteristics; and a control part which detects characteristics of print data when the print data is received through the communication part, and controls the print part to output the print data according to an tonner saving option set to correspond to the detected characteristics.
