559,457. Wire fabrics &c. BRITISH REINFORCED CONCRETE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and HALL, E. B. June 16, 1942, No. 8231. [Class 45] [Also in Group X] A runway for aerodromes &c. is formed of strips of light, welded &c. steel &c. mesh which are caused to overlap for at least one mesh, the overlapping parts being anchored together so as to prevent relative creep between the strips and to prevent the edge of the upper strip lifting away from the lower strip. In Fig. 2, the strips overlap for at least two meshes and the edge of the bottom strip has the transverse wires 1 projecting slightly more than one mesh ; at, say, every sixth mesh, the projecting wire 1 is turned over to form a closed hook 4 over a longitudinal wire of the upper strip. Intermediate wires 1 are cut adjacent an inner longitudinal wire and the free ends so formed are bent into hooks 6 to hold the outer edge of the upper strip to the lower strip. In Fig. 3, the strips are held together by short strips of wire 9 bent over at each end 10, 11. Around the perimeter of the runway, the strips are held down by U-shaped pickets. |
