<p>A prefabricated control joint (100) intended for use at places where a service conduit (200), pipe or cable penetrates a slab of concrete (400) is disclosed. The control joint is affixed to the damp proof membrane (300) under the slab. The joint has an elongate, cylindrical flexible sleeve (101) and a flexible flat sheet (102) both fabricated from an impermeable thermoplastics material. The sleeve has two open ends so that the conduit may pass through. The sleeve is sealed at a watertight joint (104) to the circumference of an aperture (103) within the sheet, with is taped (110) to the damp proof membrane. Use of the joint prevents migration of liquid or gas across the damp proof membrane and along the side of the conduit and allows relative movement between the conduit and the concrete slab. An alternate embodiment includes having an additional concentric sleeve so that a resilient layer may be place between them to accommodate lateral movement of the pipe. Another embodiment has two sheets so that they may be arranged above and below the damp proof membrane. Yet another embodiment has only one open end so it may be used to seal the end of a pile that penetrates the slap but no right through. A method of use is also disclosed.</p> |
