Provided is a light source device capable of improving the safety of a laser beam even when a diffusion member fails to exist normally in the path of a laser beam. The light source device according to the present invention comprises: a light source (1) which emits a laser beam (P); a diffusion member (8) which is provided in the light path of the laser beam (P) and diffuses and transmits the laser beam (P); a detection element (20) which uses the physical characteristics of the diffusion member (8) to detect whether the diffusion member (8) exists normally in the light path, and outputs a state detection signal; and an abnormal state determination unit (30a) which is provided with a predetermined threshold used to determine whether or not the diffusion member (8) exists normally in the light path and determines an abnormal state of the diffusion material (8) by comparing the state detection signal with the threshold. The light source (1) is controlled to reduce the output of the laser beam (P) when the abnormal state determination unit (30a) determines the abnormal state.
