Provided in the present invention are a configuration indication method and a communication device. The method comprises: a transmitting end transmits to a receiving end a media access control layer protocol data unit (MAC PDU), where the MAC PDU carries a header compression algorithm profile identifier and/or a sequence number length identifier (SNLI) of a packet data convergence protocol layer protocol data unit (PDCP PDU) in the MAC PDU. The method provided in embodiments of the present invention allows, when no central control node is provided, a transmitting end and a receiving end to implement correct reception of data without being preconfigured, thus implementing highly efficient utilization of radio resources.
