Provided is a secondary battery which is capable of more reliably interrupting electric current by increasing the deformation amount of a member that interrupts electric current by being deformed by increase of the internal pressure of a battery container. A secondary battery which is provided with a current interrupting mechanism (50) on a current path between an external terminal (20A) and an electrode (41) within a battery container (10). The current interrupting mechanism (50) is contained in the battery container (10) and is provided with a diaphragm (5) that is connected to the external terminal (20A) and a collector plate (30A) that is connected to the electrode (41). The diaphragm (5) has a protruded shape arranged on more outer side of the battery container (10) than the collector plate (30A) so as to face inside the battery container (10). The collector plate (30A) has a recessed portion (33b) in a surface that faces outside the battery container (10), and the diaphragm (5) is joined to the recessed portion (33b).
