An injection molding machine with which damage to the mold can be prevented and the injection molding cycle time can be reduced. A mold clamping device (4) moves a movable mold (31) from an open position (A) to a clamped position (B) by extending a piston rod (48) of a mold clamping cylinder (45). A deceleration start position (C) is set so as to be closer to the open position (A) than is the clamped position (B). The mold clamping device (4) moves the movable mold (31) from the open position (A) to the deceleration start position (C) at a high speed. When the movable mold (31) reaches the deceleration start position (C), the movement speed of the movable mold (31) is reduced.
