Some embodiments also involve using the determined level of interest in social networking, using the determined level of interest for advertising or sales, and modifying the level of interest using statistical measures across multiple users or files.

receiving, by a computing device, at least one persistent command from a first user to view at least one file; recording, by the computing device, a duration of the at least one persistent command; and determining, by the computing device, a level of interest of the first user in the at least one file based upon the duration.
