The present invention relates to a statistical information reporting method and apparatus, the method comprising: receiving a statistics task processing request message sent by a controller and carrying statistical tasks; obtaining the statistical tasks from the statistical task processing request message; when the content of an operation type field carried in the statistical task processing request message is creation of the statistical tasks, saving the statistical tasks in a statistical task list, wherein the statistical tasks comprise: identifiers, scheduling periods and statistical objects of the statistical tasks; monitoring the scheduling periods of the statistical tasks in the statistical task list, and obtaining the statistical tasks, the scheduling periods of which expire, in the statistical task list; and reporting to the controller the statistical information of the statistical objects of the statistical tasks obtained according to the statistical task request message. Thus, switches are enabled to periodically report the statistical information of the statistical objects to the controller, and the statistical request messages no longer need to be sent periodically and repeatedly by the controller. |
