PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air electrode for air batteries superior in high-rate discharge performance, and an air battery including such an air electrode.SOLUTION: An air electrode for air batteries comprises oxygen as an active material. The air electrode allows an air battery having a negative electrode, an air electrode and an electrolytic layer interposed between the electrodes to be constituted. The air electrode further comprises: a catalyst layer including at least an electrode catalyst and a conductive material. The electrode catalyst includes at least an oxide active to an oxygen reduction. The conductive material includes at least one metal carbide selected from a group consisting of titanium carbide and molybdenum carbide. The percentage of the titanium carbide or the molybdenum carbide to the total amount of the catalyst layer is 5-71 wt.%. In addition, an air battery comprises the air electrode for air batteries. |
