The purpose of the present invention is to provide an agent for the prevention or treatment of inflammatory disease or degenerative disc disease. A coumarin derivative or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt or hydrate thereof that is the active ingredient of this preventive or therapeutic agent shows an exceptional inhibitory effect in pharmacological tests using, as an indicator, the production of fibrosis-related factors and inflammation-related factors such as inflammatory cytokines and the like. This compound also shows an exceptional inhibitory effect in pulmonary-fibrosis-model animals and degenerative-disc-disease-model animals. Therefore, the present invention is extremely useful as a preventive or therapeutic agent for inflammatory disease and degenerative disc disease.
