Use: in devices for preventing the unauthorized use of a vehicle, and specifically relating to electromagnetic anti-theft devices which interact with transmissions. Essence: an anti-theft device for a vehicle, containing a locking element which is linked to a gearshift lever and comprises an electromagnet. The gearshift lever is detachable and connects to a gearbox by means of an electromagnet with a flat surface. The above is made possible by providing a metal plate on the lower end of the lever, said plate having a flat surface and dimensions which are identical to the flat surface and dimensions of the electromagnet. The electromagnet is connected to a hidden electromagnetic lock, by means of which the electromagnet connects to and disconnects from the on-board power network of the vehicle. Technical advantages: significantly enhancing the reliability of protecting a vehicle against theft; maximally simplifying design; universality.
