The purpose of the present invention is to provide: a filtration apparatus having excellent processing efficiency and cost performance; and an immersion-type filtration method using the filtration apparatus. The filtration apparatus according to the present invention is an immersion-type filtration apparatus which can purify a solution of interest using a filtration membrane. The filtration apparatus is equipped with multiple filtration units, wherein each of the multiple filtration units is equipped with a filtration vessel and one or more filtration membrane modules immersed in the filtration vessel, and wherein the filtration units are arranged tandemly. It is preferred that the solution of interest is supplied from the former-stage filtration unit into the subsequent-stage filtration unit by the action of the overflowing of the solution. It is also preferred that the filtration apparatus is additionally equipped with an air bubble supplier by which air bubbles can be supplied from under each of the filtration membrane modules. The immersion-type filtration method according to the present invention utilizes the filtration apparatus, and comprises supplying a portion of a solution of interest in the former-stage filtration unit into the subsequent-stage filtration unit to purify the solution.
