PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a precursor copolymer of an ionomer capable of manufacturing a container having improved optical properties and the ionomer.SOLUTION: There is provided an acid copolymer (A) containing an ethylene unit and a copolymerization unit of α,&bgr;-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid selected from a group consisting of acrylic acid and methacrylic acid of 20 to 30 wt.% based on the total weight of the acid copolymer, (B) having a melt flow rate of 10 to 4000 g/10 min. when measured at 190°C and a load of 2.16 kg according to ASTM method D 1238, and further (C) neutralized to a level of 40% to 90% based on the total number of carboxylic acid groups existing in the acid copolymer to generate sodium ionomer containing counterion substantially consisting of a carboxylate group and sodium cation, where the sodium ionomer has a melt flow rate of 0.7 to 25 g/10 min. and freezing enthalpy of undetectable or less than 3.0 j/g when measured by a differential scanning thermoanalysis according to ASTM D3418.
