PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a solid oxide fuel cell which makes possible to suppress the insulative layer formation between a cathode layer and an electrolytic layer.SOLUTION: A solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) or SOFC sub-component comprises: YSZ solid oxide electrolytic layer 10; LSCF cathode layer 14; and a mixed-phase layer 18 located between the electrolytic layer 10 and the cathode layer 14, and including at least zirconia and ceria. The cathode layer 14 is directly in contact with the mixed-phase layer 18. There is no ceria between the cathode layer 14 and the electrolytic layer 10 except in the mixed-phase layer 18. A method for manufacturing of the SOFC or sub-component comprises the steps of: depositing a ceria layer onto the electrolytic layer 10; forming the mixed-phase layer 18 by heating the electrolytic layer 10 and the ceria layer; and removing an excess ceria from the surface of the mixed-phase layer 18 before the deposition of the cathode layer 14.
