PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a document-based approval system that flexibly adapts to system modification.SOLUTION: A document management system includes: means for storing organization information representing a hierarchical structure of an organization; means for storing types defining values that can be entered in items in a document; and means for storing styles that define association between the items in the document and the types; means for producing a check program and complementary program on the basis of the types and styles; and means for providing a user with an input screen that includes the check program and complementary program on the basis of the types and styles. The system also includes means for generating an approval document in accordance with the styles from information entered on the input screen and storing the same. The types may be defined by using regular expressions or by enumerating values that can be entered. Enumerating tuples containing multiple values allows for generating a check program and complementary program that base judgement on combinations of multiple items.
