PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain maximum flexibility in tailoring a glass available as a sealing glass for a specific application, by preparing a widest possible range of glass compositions for sealing applications so that, for example, the thermal expansion coefficient or the softening point can be chosen to match a particular substrate without compromising chemical durability.SOLUTION: A transition metal doped tin phosphate glass is provided. Significant expansion of a glass forming region of a green sealing glass allows greater flexibility in tailoring other glass properties, such as characteristic temperatures, the thermal expansion coefficient, and/or the refractive index. |
