<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a configuration allowing efficient generation of an image desired by a user. <P>SOLUTION: In the case of multi-stream OFF, an image is read by a line image sensor 5 at 10 bit-depth, subjected to gamma correction by a gamma correction part 22a, and further converted from 10 bit-depth to 8 bit-depth by a gradation conversion part 22b to be transmitted to a PC 40. Such an image is then processed by an image processing part 46. In the case of multi-stream ON, an image is read by the sensor 5 at 8 bit-depth to be transmitted to a memory 43 in the PC40 without performing gamma correction.
