A lithium primary battery which is equipped with a negative electrode comprising lithium metal and/or a lithium alloy, a positive electrode comprising a positive active material, a separator interposed between the negative electrode and the positive electrode, and a nonaqueous electrolyte, wherein the positive active material comprises Fe2(SO4)3 and the negative electrode has a coating layer on the surface that faces the positive electrode, the coating layer comprising a powdery or fibrous material.
