PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink cartridge and a fitting detection method which stabilizes fitting detection of the ink cartridge.SOLUTION: A facility electric contact for communication with an information storage device disposed on each of a plurality of ink cartridges which are attachable and detachable and a light reception part for sensing light from a light emission part disposed on each ink cartridge are installed in an inkjet printer. When a light emission instruction containing discrimination information of the ink cartridge of a fitting detection object is issued from the inkjet printer, all light emission parts of the ink cartridges emit light on such a position that the ink cartridge of the fitting detection object is opposed to the light reception part. When the inkjet printer senses light emission, the inkjet printer confirms storage information of the information storage device of the ink cartridge of the fitting detection object and determines the presence or absence of erroneous fitting or the like.
