The objective of the present invention is to provide: an organic EL element wherein disconnection of a conductive wire portion connecting an electrode layer of a transparent electrode and a lead-out wiring line is less likely to occur; and a method for manufacturing this organic EL element. The present invention is an organic electroluminescent element which is provided with a pair of electrodes and a light emitting layer on a substrate, and which is characterized in that: the organic electroluminescent element is provided with a transparent electrode that is arranged on the substrate side, a light scattering layer between the substrate and the transparent electrode, and a lead-out wiring line that connects the transparent electrode to an external power supply; the transparent electrode is provided with a base layer containing a compound that contains nitrogen atoms or sulfur atoms and an electrode layer that is formed on the base layer using silver, a silver alloy, copper or a copper alloy; the electrode layer is provided with a main portion that is formed so as to overlap a region of the light emitting layer and a conductive wire portion that is exposed from the main portion on the lead-out wiring line side; the lead-out wiring line is formed so as to overlap at least a part of the conductive wire portion; and the base layer is formed under both the main portion and the conductive wire portion of the electrode layer. |
