A writing tool (1) is equipped with a cylindrical shaft (2) which has a cylindrical part (20) having, formed thereon, multiple recesses and protrusions, wherein the cylindrical part (20) has an approximately uniform thickness. The recesses and the protrusions are formed by a combination of three-dimensional unit patterns (A), (B) and (C) each having an approximately uniform thickness. In the combination of the unit patterns (A), (B) and (C), the unit patterns (A), (B) and (C) may have different surface areas from one another. Among the unit patterns (A), (B) and (C), one unit pattern which has a larger surface area is arranged on the forward side of the cylindrical part (20), and on unit pattern which has a smaller surface area is arranged on the backward side of the cylindrical part (20).
