<p>A modular water current turbine system comprises a plurality of submersible turbine assemblies 2, a power conversion module 13 and its mounting 12, and a frequency conversion module 7 and its mounting 6. At least one power conversion module 13 is common to two or more turbine assemblies 2. Electrical connections to the modules are made via their mountings. Modularising the subsystems (frequency conversion and power conversion) of the electrical system allows for low cost, frequent access to parts of the system with a lower mean time before failure, as there is no need to recover the entire turbine and drivetrain. The modules may have controllable buoyancy to assist with retrieval.</p> |
