The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating myocardial damage containing Echinocrome A as an active component, which controls degradation of functions of myocardial cell mitochondria and increase in active oxygen species in myocardial cell caused by a toxic drug for the heart like an anticancer drug, a blood vessel expanding drug, or a drug causing active oxygen species. Accordingly, membrane voltage change of mitochondria, oxygen consumption reduction, and ATP synthesis reduction are prevented or inhibited, and phosphorylation of factors of a cell death signaling process caused by a toxic drug is controlled to present an effect of controlling death of myocardial cells, thereby preventing or treating myocardial damage from a toxic drug.
