An image-pickup apparatus (C100) to which a lens unit (L100) that includes an image-pickup optical system (L101~L105) including a focus lens (L105) is attachable includes an imaging means (C101) for photoelectrically converting an object image formed via the lens unit that has been attached, and generating an image signal, and a control means (C106, C1061) for generating information on driving of the focus lens in the lens unit based upon the image signal and providing focus control, the control means communicating data with the lens unit. The control means transmits information on a driving target position of the focus lens to the lens unit in a first control, and transmits information on a driving direction and driving speed of the focus lens to the lens unit in a second control different from the first control.
