The present invention relates to a composition containing a benzofuran-based compound or pharmaceutically acceptable salt as an active ingredient for prevention or treatment of asthma. A benzofuran-based compound of the present invention effectively controls hypersensitivity of airway and infiltration of inflammation cells induced by asthma, controls generation of cytokine (interleukin-4, -5, -13) secreted by controlling an immune reaction of Th2 type, significantly reduces generation of lgE in serum and ovalbumin-specific lgE, and significantly reduces inflammatory cells in a bronchoalveolar lavage solution, thereby being useful in prevention and treatment of inflammatory diseases including asthma or inflammatory lung diseases.
