[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Soldering.-Two non-metallic surfaces consisting of thermo-setting synthetic resins, wood, ceramic materials &c. are united together by first spraying on the surfaces a metal such as tin, tm alloy, copper, aluminium &c., inserting between the sprayed surfaces a thin sheet or foil of metal of good heat and electrical conductivity such as copper, aluminium, steel, brass or silver coated with easily fusible metal such as tin, tinlead, solder or aluminium solder and subjecting the sheet to heat to fuse the coating while pressing the surfaces together. The coating on the sheet may be applied by spraying, dipping or electro-deposition. Heating of the sheet may be effected by leaving a projecting portion to which heat is applied or two projecting portions to which the terminals of an electric circuit may be connected. The projecting portions are removed after the joint is made. In another form two flat or cylindrical non-metallic sheets may be disposed in a rapidly fluctuating magnetic field so that the sheet or foil is heated by induced eddy currents.</p> |
