Capturing successive thermal images via a thermal camera, detecting a user action from the thermal images and controlling a data processing operation in response to the detection. The user action maybe a user touching a surface and the detection comprises detecting from the thermal image a change in the temperature of the surface at a detection position from an initial temperature to a temperature higher than the initial temperature. The detecting step may detect user movement while touching the surface along a path larger than the detection position associated with a single touch so it detects heat residue left by a finger touch. The detected users actions may be filtered to so they decay slower than a rate of decay associated with the cooling of the surface. The surface maybe actively cooled in response to detection of a users touch. The thermal camera maybe stereoscopic and may be associated with a visible light camera. |
