<p>An apparatus comprises a sensing unit having a plurality of laterally-spaced fluid sensitive elements 902 and at least one readout node 903 associated with the fluid-sensitive elements, wherein the fluid-sensitive elements are configured to exhibit a characteristic response to the presence of a fluid 906 in their respective localities, and wherein the at least one readout node is configured to receive signalling from the associated fluid-sensitive elements indicative of the characteristic response, and transmit signalling to a reader 904 to enable the presence and location of the fluid to be determined based on the signalling received from the fluid-sensitive elements. The fluid may be moisture, carbon dioxide or ammonia for example. The apparatus may form an array of sensors tailored to cover a specific area for wireless monitoring, where the sensors are based on impedance, resistance, or capacitance measurements.</p> |
