The disclosure herein relates to a gear pump for pumping fluid. The gear pump 100 comprise a motor 102 for driving a rotatable drive shaft 108. A drive gear 118 is driven by the drive shaft and an idler gear 120 which meshes with the drive gear. An annular magnet 122 is disposed coaxially with the drive shaft and rotates therewith and a sensor 126 senses rotation of the annular magnet and generates an output signal corresponding to a rotational position of the drive shaft. The determination of the position of the drive shaft can then be used to control the motor and hence the fluid output of the pump is controlled in response to the calculated position of the drive shaft. The sensor may comprise a Hall Effect array to determine the magnet position. The sensor may be located in a trench 204 on a face 124 of an exterior surface of the pump housing. The pump face may comprise fluid input and output ports 200, 202 respectively. |
