A means for lubricating a machine arrangement 1 comprising two or more machine parts moving relative to another such that friction occurs therebetween. The apparatus includes: a first reservoir 2 containing a first lubricant A having a first viscosity; and a second reservoir 3 containing a second lubricant B having a second viscosity. The apparatus is operable to supply machine arrangement 1 with an initial mixture of lubricants A and B, and to monitor an operational parameter, such as the temperature, of machine arrangement 1 until it reaches a steady state. The supplied mixture of lubricants A and B is then altered, and further operation of machine arrangement 1 is monitored until the operational parameter reaches a steady state once more. If the difference between operational parameters is found to be either unequal, or above a predefined threshold, then a new lubricant mixture is supplied and a further comparison is made. If the difference is calculated to be zero then the present lubricant mixture is maintained. |
