1. A heating device for heating a fluid in a container having a cavity, the heating device comprising:
a substantially flat and disc shaped member having a heating element embedded therein and comprising a substantially flat and disc shaped heat transfer surface for transferring heat to the fluid, wherein the heating device is arranged to be brought into association with the container such that, in use when the container is positioned facing downwards, the heat transfer surface extends across an opening of the container opposite a floor of the cavity, sealing the opening, and contacting the fluid at the opening to transfer heat to the fluid, and wherein the heating device is arranged to be heated by electromagnetic induction; a sensor for detecting orientation of the heating device; and a controller, coupled to the sensor, to control power being delivered to the heating device in accordance with the detected orientation output from the sensor, wherein the controller interrupts power delivery when the orientation indicates that the fluid is not in contact with the heat transfer surface.
