The present invention provides a mobile terminal. The mobile terminal includes: a wireless communication unit for executing a wireless communication operation; a sensing unit which senses a magnetic field; and a control unit which controls the wireless communication unit to attempt to establish a wireless channel to at least one external device when a change in the magnetic field is detected through the sensing unit as the mobile terminal comes close to the external device. The present invention also provides a control method for the mobile terminal. The control method includes the steps of: sensing a change in the magnetic field as the mobile terminal comes close to at least one external device; and attempting to establish a wireless channel to the external device.
