Method for mounting a forklift (2) to the rear of a vehicle (96) such as a truck or trailer. The forklift, having a frame (3), a pair of spaced apart front front wheels (4), at least one rear wheel (76), and a pair of forks that are movably mounted to 'the frame (72) in at least a vertical direction relative to the frame. the mounting system includes a pair of mounting brackets (90), each of the mounting brackets being fixedly attached to the forklift frame or the rearward end of the vehicle and having an opening (92) defined therethrough. Receiving pins (94), being dimensioned such that they can slide though the opening in each of the mounting brackets have a supporting position and release position. The supporting position of the pins resulst in a horizontal disposition thereof and rigid attachment of the forklift to the rearward end of the vehicle.
