Systems, methods, and devices for communicating data in a wireless communications network are described herein. One innovative aspect of the present disclosure includes a method of communicating in a wireless network. The wireless network includes an access point and a relay. The method includes indicating to a client, at the relay, a network address of the access point. The method further includes receiving an association request, from the client, addressed to the access point. The method further includes forwarding the association request to the access point.

1. A method of communicating in a wireless network comprising a relay comprising an access point (AP) side and a client side, the method comprising:
indicating to a client, at the relay, a network address of the access point; receiving an association request, from the client, addressed to the access point; and transmitting at least one of:
a relay control field comprising at least one of: a root access point (AP) field indicating whether or not the relay is a root node, and a relayed service set identification (SSID) field indicating whether or not the relay is transmitting a relayed SSID; anda reachable address frame comprising a list of addresses reachable by the relay and at least one of: a category field indicating that the frame is a relay action frame, a relay action field indicating that the frame is a reachable address update frame, and an address count field indicating the number of addresses in the list.
