A display for imaging includes an aperture layer and a set of light modulators. The aperture layer includes a light absorbing layer disposed over a light reflecting layer, each layer having a set of apertures defined therein. The light absorbing layer includes light absorbing material suspended in a photosensitive resin. The set of light modulators are for modulating light passing through the apertures defined in the aperture layer.

1. A display comprising:
an aperture layer including a light absorbing layer disposed over a light reflecting layer, each layer having a plurality of apertures defined therein, wherein the light absorbing layer includes light absorbing material suspended in a photosensitive resin; and a plurality of light modulators for modulating light passing through the apertures defined in the aperture layer, wherein the light absorbing layer comprises at least two light absorbing layers such that one of the two light absorbing layers is deposited directly on top of the other of the two light absorbing layers, and wherein at least one of the two light absorbing layers includes a patternable photoresist.
