Hemostatic compositions and therapeutic regimens

The present invention relates generally to the field of hemostasis, including methods, compositions, and devices that can be employed to treat wounds. More specifically the present invention relates to hemostatic compositions that reduce the need for, and cost of, nursing care of patients with chronic wounds by reducing the frequency of wound dressing changes.

A method for treating a wound in a human subject, comprising topically applying a composition comprising poly-β-1→4-N-acetylglucosamine fibers to a wound in a human subject in need thereof, wherein the fibers have been irradiated to reduce the length of the fibers, and wherein more than 50% of the fibers are less than about 15 μm in length.
