Disclosed are various embodiments for controlling an output power of a transmitter. Adjustment amounts for a transmitter to transmit at a desired power level are determined. For a predetermined time period, an actual power level of the transmitter is adjusted at a first adjustment rate. Upon an expiration of the predetermined time period, the actual power level is adjusted at a second adjustment rate, wherein the second adjustment rate is slower than the first adjustment rate.

1. A system, comprising:
transmitter circuitry configured to transmit data at a plurality of desired power levels; detector circuitry configured to obtain a signal corresponding to an actual transmit power level for transmitted data; gain control circuitry configured to adjust the actual transmit power level based on the signal at a first adjustment rate for a predetermined time period in response to receiving a command to change to one of the desired power levels; and the gain control circuitry configured to adjust the actual transmit power level based on the signal at a second adjustment rate upon an expiration of the predetermined time period, wherein adjusting the actual transmit power level at the first and the second adjustment rates comprises updating gain signals at a first and a second frequency.
