Provided are a medical apparatus and a method for operating the same. The medical apparatus comprises a body including a user input part receiving a user command; a display device displaying a medical image and hinged to the body; a sensor arranged on the display device and sensing touch of the display device; and a control part setting the mode of the display device as any one among a rotatable mode in which the display device is rotatable or a fixed mode in which the display device is fixed upon sensor upon touch.
