The present invention provides an optical filter with excellent heat resistance and light stability by improving flaws that the conventional optical filter such as a near infrared ray cut filter has, an apparatus using the optical filter, and a cyanine-based compound which is able to provide the optical filter. The optical filter of the present invention includes: a transparent resin substrate containing the cyanine compound and a near infrared ray reflective film formed on one or more sides of the substrate. The cyanine compound is an ion-pair corporate body made of an anion and a cation and the anion has a HOMO value of less than or equal to -3.4eV.
