An emulsion composition comprising a continuous phase, a dispersed phase, and a compatibilizer that is the reaction product of a first functional polymer dispersible in the continuous phase and a second functional polymer dispersible in the dispersed phase, the compatibilizer having at least one complementary reactive group pairing and being formed interfacially between the continuous phase and dispersed phases upon admixing of the first and second phases each containing their respective dispersible functional polymers to effect compatibilizer formation by in-situ reaction of said polymers, and at least one of the continuous and dispersed phases containing a cosmetic active agent.
