The present invention relates to: a current detector for detecting the main circuit current flowing through an inductor as a result of the switching of a semiconductor switching element, wherein the inductor is provided with a main winding and auxiliary winding having equal numbers of turns and is connected such that the switching operation cancels the electromotive force generated by the main winding and auxiliary winding; and a power converter that uses this current detector. The current detector is provided with: a voltage detection unit (5) that has input terminals respectively connected to second ends (1b, 2b) of a main winding (1) and an auxiliary winding (2), which each have first end (1a, 2a) connected to a main circuit line (50), and that detects only the voltage between the second ends (1b, 2b); a temperature detection element (7) for detecting the temperature of the main winding (1); and a current calculation circuit (6) for correcting the winding resistance of the main winding (1) on the basis of the detected temperature and using the corrected winding resistance and the detected voltage value of the voltage detection unit (5) to calculate the main circuit current (IL) flowing through the main winding (1). |
