Method, system, and client terminals for controlling peripheral devices are disclosed. The method includes: at a server having one or more processors and memory, the server configured to support a communication session between a first client terminal and a second client terminals over a social networking platform: obtaining a control instruction from the second client terminal, the control instruction targeting a respective social network identity associated with a first peripheral device; determining a connection state between the first peripheral device and the first client terminal; and in accordance with a determination that the connection state between the first client terminal and the first peripheral device is active, sending the control instruction to the first peripheral device through the first client terminal. |
