[Problem] To provide a card insertion/discharge slot unit and a card handling apparatus which prevent unauthorized reading of magnetic information from a magnetic card and which have improved maintainability without detriment to the performance of the IC contact detection sensor therein. [Solution] A card insertion/discharge slot unit according to the present invention is characterized by being provided with a slot through which a card is inserted and discharged, a magnetic field generation unit which generates an interfering magnetic field, and an IC contact detection sensor which detects the presence or absence of an IC contact, wherein said card insertion/discharge slot unit can be attached to and detached from the card inlet/outlet part of the main body of a card handling apparatus.
