PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide detection means of poorly water-absorbing seed and elimination means of poor water-absorbability that are achieved without changing the quality of seed.SOLUTION: A detection method of poorly water-absorbing seed includes: a step of supplying water in a molecular state or water in a mist state to a seed group including the poorly water-absorbing seed, and causing difference in water content between the poorly water-absorbing seed and a normal seed; and a step of measuring or analyzing characteristics in conjunction with the difference of the water content about an individual seed 7 contained in the seed group, and specifying the poorly water-absorbing seed based on the measurement or analysis results. Also, an elimination method of poor water-absorbability includes a step of supplying the water in the molecular state or water in the mist state to the poorly water-absorbing seed.
