<p>A document sorting apparatus is described, which comprises a detector part having one or more detectors for determining a type of a document received at the detector part and a plurality of document handling modules, each document handling module comprising a stacking area into which documents are diverted in dependence on their type as determined by the detector part. Each document handling module comprises one or more holding areas into which the documents held in the stacking area or another holding area of the document handling module are moved when the stacking area is either full or completed. As a result, documents can be removed from the holding areas while new documents continue to be stacked up in the stacking areas, meaning that there is no need to pause the operation of the document sorting apparatus while documents are being removed.</p> |
