PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a packing which can prevent a human error at attachment, is excellent in seal performance without excessively increasing slide resistance to a shaft body to be sealed, and can be used in a high-temperature area, and a seal device using the packing.SOLUTION: A contour of a packing 100 is formed into an abacus-type ring shape, the density of the packing 100 is set higher in a region at external peripheral faces (Su, Sd) than a region at an internal peripheral face 713 side of a penetration hole which constitutes a ring, a piece cross section is formed into a rectangular shape, the packing is formed of a raw material containing vermiculite at least at 25.0% in a weight ratio, and a raw material containing graphite at least at 99.8% in a weight ratio, and a seal device 700 which makes the packing 100 effectively function comprises an intermediate packing 200 which surrounds the packing 100 along an axial line S, and a backup ring 300 which is formed of a raw material containing vermiculate at least at 25.0% in a weight ratio. |
