A grounding device and arc suppression method used on an electric locomotive, the carbon brushes arranged on the brush holder (2) in the grounding device comprising grounding carbon brushes (31) and an arc suppression carbon brush (32); the bottoms of the grounding carbon brushes (31) and arc suppression carbon brush (32) and the brush holder (2) having arranged therebetween a spring causing the carbon brush heads and a circular friction copper disk to be in intimate contact with each other. The arc suppression method comprises the pressure applied between the grounding carbon brushes (31) and the friction copper disk being less than the pressure applied between the arc suppression carbon brushes (32) and the friction copper disk. By using the described grounding device and arc suppression method, one not only prolongs the service life of the grounding carbon brushes, but also prevents, under operating conditions of intense vibration, arcing and burning occurring as a result of high voltage produced between the grounding carbon brushes and the friction copper disk after separation of said carbon brushes and copper disk. |
