A Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamp, the LED lamp includes: a string of connected LEDs configured to receive current from a driver; a temperature sensor configured to sense a temperature of the LED lamp; a switch connected in parallel with one or more of the LEDs in the string of LEDs configured to selectively bypass said current from the driver to said one or more of the LEDs, wherein the switch is further configured to bypass said current to the one or more of the LEDs upon receipt of a signal indicative of a turn OFF temperature threshold value being sensed by the temperature sensor.
